Doors

As with all detailing, the style of a door or entrance opening should follow from the rest of the building. Hence, formal buildings may well suit a properly moulded panelled door whilst ledge and braced doors will be more appropriate for cottages. Off-the-peg doors which inaccurately simulate traditional detailing and are unlikely to be acceptable on listed buildings or particularly sensitive sites. Contemporary or traditional doors which incorporate areas of glazing through side-lights or top-lights can provide easy solutions to borrowing natural light into dark hallways and internal spaces.
