This section moves away from the macro scale to focus on the micro scale of development. Once your design vision has been set out and the external envelope of a building established, the elevations can then be addressed. Irrespective of the design approach chosen, the overarching aim should be to create locally distinctive architecture which relates well to context and is clearly rooted within the wider setting of North Norfolk. This approach should not mean defaulting to pastiche design, but instead reflecting various expressions and interpretations of vernacular architecture which become honest and of their time.

The concepts within the section offer a starting point and general steer in considering how to detail your project. The sub-sections provide common examples of the various architectural details.
